Het is waarschijnlijk ook het meest veelzijdige instrument dat er bestaat. Dankzij de ontwikkelingen die de accordeon heeft doorgemaakt kan dit instrument bijna alle muziekstijlen aan. Dit kan gaan van volksmuziek, jazz, rock- tot zelfs klassieke muziek. In Vlaanderen worden vooral twee accordeonsystemen gebruikt: Do eerste rij (De noot do ligt op de eerste rij) en do derde rij (de noot do ligt op de derde rij), allebei knopaccordeons. Trekkentocht deel I is een methodeboek dat geschreven is voor de accordeon do derde rij. De vingerzettingen kunnen enkel voor dit systeem gebruikt worden. Het boek is zowel te gebruiken in muziekacademies, als voor zelfstudie.

Toelichting
