From the realm of Indian classical music, the sitar has suddenly found itself as the 'in' instrument of the popular music of the Western World.
The primary purpose of this publication is to provide a working knowledge of the sitar, to those people who wish to aquire the basic skills in tuning, holding, fingerin and plucking techniques, as well as general care of the instrument even if they do notintend to use it to play Indian music. Therefore, with the exception of elementary scales and exercises, this publication does not contain any instruction on elements of the classical music of India or its terminology. The methods described in ths publication can progressively be adapted to more advanced techniques of the instrument.
