West African Rhythms for Drumset - Royal Hartigan, Abraham Adzenyah & Freem, An Donkor.

West African Rhythms for Drumset -

Ghana, West Africa is the source for many rhythms throughout the world. In this book, ethnomusicologist and drumset artist Royal Hartigan, with the help of Ghanaian Master Drummers, Abraham Adzenyah and Freeman Donkor, have adapted West African rhythms to the drumset.
Concentrating on four rhythmic groups - Sikyi, Adowa, Gahy and Akom - each chapter introduces the traditional instruments and rhythms of each style. Each drum and bell pattern is then adapted to its appropriate voice on the drumset. This step-by-step organic approach allows each drumset example to speak to you increasing your rhythmic understanding of West African drumming, music and culture. The accompanying CD features a Ghanaian drumming ensemble as well as selected drumset adaptations.
